BRIEF PROFILE OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Applied Chemistry at Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti is dedicated to training students in the practical application of chemical knowledge to address industrial, environmental, and societal needs. The department provides students with a solid foundation in chemical principles while emphasizing laboratory work, research, and the development of analytical and problem-solving skills required in modern scientific practice.
The department originated as a unit under the Department of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT). In 2025, following the unbundling of the SLT programme in line with academic restructuring and the need for specialized training, Applied Chemistry was established as an independent department within the institution.
Through its academic programmes, students are exposed to areas such as analytical chemistry, industrial chemistry, environmental chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry physical chemistry and forensic chemistry. The programmes combine theoretical instruction with practical laboratory experience and industrial training, preparing graduates for careers in industries, research institutions, environmental agencies, and laboratories.
With the support of qualified academic staff and well-equipped laboratories, the department continues to promote excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. The Department of Applied Chemistry remains committed to producing competent graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national development and the advancement of science and technology.
Mr. Ogede Robert Oluwaseyi
THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
Mr. Ogede Robert Oluwaseyi is a Principal Lecturer in Physical Chemistry in the Department of Applied Chemistry at The Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. He is an experienced academic with a strong commitment to teaching, research, and the advancement of chemical sciences.
His research interests span Physical Chemistry and Computational Chemistry, with a focus on advancing scientific understanding and contributing to innovative research in these fields.
Mr. Ogede obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Physical Chemistry from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech, Hons.) in Pure and Applied Chemistry from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
He has authored over 25 scholarly publications in reputable journals, conference proceedings, and textbooks, contributing significantly to the development and dissemination of knowledge in general and physical chemistry.
