The Department of Statistics

The School of Pure and Applied Sciences (SPAS) The Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria.

You Are Welcome to The Department of Statistics

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department  of Statistics is one of the ten (10) Departments in the school of Pure and Applied Sciences. The Department came to being from the change and renamed of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the year 2023 as approved by the Academic Board of its 387th Statutory meeting held on Wednesday, 5th July, 2023 at the Council Chamber of the Polytechnic. This became necessary because of the diplomate certificates awarded in the Department.

This Department started functioning as a full fledge Department in September 2007. The Department commenced with twenty one (21) staff, fifteen(15) lecturers, four (4) technologist and two (2) non-academic staff.

When the Department was a unit in the then Department of Mathematics and Computer Studies, the resource visitation team gave approval for students admission through Jamb in 1994. Through these years, the Department has witnessed considerable growth in students’ enrolment, staff strength and laboratory facilities. The department as at present has one laboratory. The facilities in this laboratory meet up with the required standard. To date, members of staff have attended seminars, conferences and workshops both within   and outside  the State. The Professional Statistical Society of Nigeria (PSSN) and The Nigerian Mathematics Society (NMS) conferences are usually attended by the academic staff of the department and they are registered members of those professional bodies.

The Department is now known and named as the Department of STATISTICS as approved by the Academic Board at its 387th sitting, on the 5th July, 2023.
