History
The Department of Hospitality Management Technology was established in October, 2022 to provide quality education and practical training in the principles and practices of hospitality and service management. The department is committed to developing skilled professionals who can contribute effectively to the hospitality, tourism, and service industries.
The pioneer Ag. Head of Department, Dr. Olukayode A. Okunade, who assumed office on January, 2023 provided strong leadership and laid a solid academic and administrative foundation for the department during his two-year tenure. His efforts contributed significantly to the early development, organization, and growth of the department.
Following this foundational phase, Dr. (Mrs.) Ayodele Oluwayemisi Ogunlade assumed office on 22nd May, 2025 as the current Ag. Head of Department, continuing the work of strengthening the department’s academic structure, expanding student enrollment, and improving administrative efficiency.
Since its establishment, the department has experienced remarkable growth in both student population and staff structure. The department commenced operations with two (2) academic staff, two (2) ad-hoc staff. The student enrollment has increased from sixty eight (68) at inception to one hundred and sixty-eight (168) students currently spreading across both morning and evening programmes. The Department currently operates with five (5) permanent academic staff, two (2) ad-hoc staff, and one (1) clerical ad-hoc officer who supports the administrative activities of the Department. The Department operates a restaurant that is well equipped with state-of-heart equipment for the students practical and trainings.
The Department of Hospitality Management Technology remains committed to producing competent graduates equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional ethics required to excel in the hospitality and tourism industry, while contributing meaningfully to national development.
Graduates of the program have diverse career opportunities within the rapidly growing hospitality, tourism, and service industries. The prospects include: Hotel and Resort Management, Restaurant and Catering Services, Tourism and Travel Industry, Event and Conference Management, Entrepreneurship and Self-Employment, Airline and Cruise Hospitality Services, Institutional Hospitality Services etc.
Overall, the Hospitality Management Technology programme provides graduates with the knowledge and practical competencies required to become professionals, managers, and entrepreneurs in the hospitality and tourism sectors both locally and internationally.
Philosophy
The philosophy of the Department of Hospitality Management Technology is to produce competent, innovative, and service-oriented professionals through a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical training, while promoting entrepreneurship, professionalism, and excellence in the hospitality industry.
Objectives
- To provide students with sound theoretical knowledge and practical skills in hospitality management and service delivery.
- To develop competent professionals capable of managing hotels, restaurants, and other hospitality establishments effectively.
- To promote entrepreneurship and self-reliance in the hospitality and tourism industry.
- To equip students with leadership, communication, and customer service skills required in the hospitality sector.
To prepare graduates to contribute to the growth and development of the hospitality and tourism industry locally and globally.
