HISTORY OF GLASS AND CERAMIC TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The department of Glass and Ceramic Technology was started as a unit of glass technology under the department of science technology in 1984. The unit was transformed into the department of glass technology in 1986; the nomenclature was changed from glass technology to glass and ceramics technology in 1988 following the directives of NBTE for comprehensive coverage of the related subjects in glass and ceramics. The department offer in- depth studies in the science and technology of glass and ceramics. The department specialty is one of the most valuable but rare contemporary fields of technology. The department is involved in the training of student, to become competent technicians and technologists in glass and ceramic technology and allied courses through practical inquired based instructions and investigation through project work.

The department has:

  2. Scientific Glass Blowing Workshop
  3. Ceramic Workshop
  4. Wood Workshop
  5. Welding and Fabricating Workshop

The Department of Glass and Ceramics offers courses leading to the award of:

  1. National Diploma in Glass and Ceramic Technology
  2. Higher National Diploma in Glass Technology
  3. Higher National Diploma in Ceramic Technology
